Mary Spicer

 Mary B. Spicer, 89, died at 9:25 a.m. Aug. 26, 2010, at Lima Memorial Health System, following a brief illness. 

She was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Allen County to Charles W. and Della F. Bowers Crider. On Sept. 30, 1945, she married Carl L. Spicer, who died May 22, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Steven T. (Lori) Spicer, Lima, and Todd W. (Susan) Spicer, St. Marys; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Hooker, Spencerville, and Gloria Spicer, St. Marys.

Deceased are a granddaughter; three sisters, Francis Swygart, Edna Craft and Cleo Hanke; and a brother, William Crider.

She was a 1939 graduate of Mendon-Union High School and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville, and former member of the Olive Chapel Methodist Church and former Christie Chapel Church. She retired from bookkeeping at the Lima Correctional Institution in 1989 and from Crouse Lumber. She also had worked at Westinghouse Corp., Lima, from 1939 to 1945.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Church, the Rev. Jan Johnson officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wright Cemetery, near Converse.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

   Violet Reynolds Ashton's sister, Doris Reynolds Griffin, was a lifelong friend of "Mary B." Crider Spicer and the families were neighbors and friends in the West Union Community in Spencer Township, outside of Spencerville in Allen County, Ohio, when the Mary B., Doris and Violet were growing up.
