Facts and Events
The following report is part of the papers received from Alta Walls when she was asked about her family. Though she had written it longhand, I believe it to be taken from the Arcola newspaper-- Younger-Barricklow Mar. 20, 1892 Wednesday evening at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Matthias Barriklow, in the presence of a large crowd of friends and relatives, occurred the marriage of Miss Dilla Barriklow to Mr. Isaac Younger. Promptly at eight o'clock the bride and groom elect were ushered into the presence of the assembled guests where with a very simple but impressive ceremony Rev. Turner pronounced them man and wife. After the ceremony the guests were conducted into the dining room, where a bountiful repast was served. After supper the bride and groom received congratulations from their friends. The bride wore an elegant dress of cream colored drap de venna trimmed in ribbon and lace; the groom was attired in the convential [sic] black. Mr. Younger is one of our most progressive young farmers and Mrs. Younger a farmer's daughter, is well fitted to be his companion for life. They will live the coming year at the groom's home two miles south of Arcola, where they will be at home to their many friends. The young couple were the recipients of many beautiful and useful presents. Those from a distance attending the wedding were: Messrs. Jan and Jasper Younger, Dan Younger and Bruce Lee all of Paris, Lee Elliott and sister of Mattoon and Miss Rosa [may be Rose] Fisher of Tuscola. |
