VINEYARD, Martin Oscar - A memorial service for Martin Oscar Vineyard of Ferndale will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gillies Funeral Home with Wes Cheatham officiating. His ashes will be placed on his father's grave in Lynden Cemetery following the service. Mr. Vineyard died at his home Friday, Jan 8, 1999. He was 78. Born Feb. 21, 1920 to Oscar and Isabelle Smith Vineyard in VanBuren, MO, he attended schools there and moved to Whatcom County in 1937. On June 4, 1942, he married Leona Axt in Bellingham. He worked as a berry grower for 20 years and owned a rental business. He also was a bus driver for the Ferndale School District and truck driver for Dakota Fish of Blaine. He enjoyed hunting and golfing. Survivors include his wife of the family home, daughters Leilani Jensen of Ferndale, Laverne Pen of Lynden, Marti Vineyard of the family home and Diane Martinka of Marysville, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
