Funeral services for Mr. Martin Douglas Adkins, 95, were to beheld at 10 a.m. today, June 27, 2005, at Mt. Paran BaptistChurch with his former pastor, the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock,officiating, and the Rev. Charles Garner assisting. Gravesideservices will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under thedirection of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill. Mr. Adkins, a native of Shongaloo, passed away Friday, June 24.He was born July 21, 1908. All of his friends and acquaintancesconsidered it an honor to have known him. He worked for 33 yearswith Penrod Drilling Company. He was a true servant of the Lord, who was unashamedly devotedto and idolized by everyone in his family. He was a member,deacon, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher andchairman emeritus of the deacon board at Mt. Paran BaptistChurch in Shongaloo. He was a member of Shongaloo Masonic Lodge #352, the ShreveportValley of the Scottish Rite and El Karuba Shrine. His legacy oflove, servanthood and enjoyment of the Christian faith and hisfamily has set an extremely high standard for those who love andcherish his memory. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eulyne Morgan Adkins;three sons and their wives, Doug and Carole, Bob and Suzette,and Ron and Alice of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Mindy,Gregory, David, Christopher, Alexander, Micah and Andrew; 13great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. James L. Adkins of Augusta,Ga., and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were David Adkins, Greg Adkins, Chris Adkins, AlexAdkins, Andrew Adkins, Blaine Adkins and David Piehler. Honorarypallbearers were Ray Clements, Jim Adkins, Tom Adkins, GeorgeAdkins, Dr. William Swan, Luther Swan and Marion Wyatt Bevill.
