Martha's maiden name and origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1695 when she was already married to a Thomas Fernihough. Martha and Thomas went on to have six children baptised at Marton in Cheshire between 1695 and 1707.

Martha died just six months after the baptism of her youngest son. She died on 4th May 1708 and was buried four days later at Marton. Thomas survived her by nearly forty years.
