My grandfather, F. Leslie Litherland told me (I am his daughter Vera's child, Mary) that his mother's name was Mary and his father's name was Tom because I had married a man named Tom. Maybe it was a shortened name for Martha, I don't know for sure. But he said they lived at a place they called Sheridan's hole by Racoon creek in rural S.E.Illinois.

My grandfather told us that his mother died shortly after he was born because she had been white-washing a house and had developed lead poisoning and died at 36 years of age.
