Services for Martha Virginia Lamons, 95, of Denton were officiated by Rev. l.A. Whatley and Rev. Jim Angel.
Mrs. Lamons lived in Graham, Bridgeport, Corpus Christi before moving to Denton in 1980. In earlier years, she was active in the Baptist Churches where she lived and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Denton.
Martha was the great-granddaughter of John B. Denton. Denton County, Texas was named for John B. Denton.
In 1950, Mrs. S.M. Lamons was living in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe R. Cox. She spent many times visiting her children in the Young County area. That year, she attended the wedding of her daughter, Miss Rachel Marcella Lamons of Galena Park to Carl R. Erickson of Houston. Her daugher was a 1947 graduate of Olney HIgh , attended North Texas State College and received bachelor's degree in August 1950. She was a journalism and English teacher at Galena Park. She worked for the Olney Enterprise, the same newspaper her father edited in 1930.
Survived by six daughters - Ruth Beavers of Waco, Lela Cox of Stafford, VA, Margaret Jackson of Sumner, Frances Matzinger of Denton, Dorothy Johnson of Olney, Rachael Erikson of Houston; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three children - Inez McCluskey, Catherine Pankonin and Thomas Lamons.
