Martha known as "Lizzy" (must have been fun to refer to them as Liss and Lizzy?). See fragile Lorenzo N. Braught family photo from Bea Romine where someone wrote on the face with some names, including what seems to be a "Lizzie" and an older man identified as J. Pickle. Another photo of "Liss" and "Allie" with R.W. Braught taken 28 Mar 1943. Also see photo of parents of Lizzy, "Mr and Mrs. Pickle", who (in my opinion) are certainly the same as J. Pickle and probably the same person as Birt Mathis of the fragile photo mentioned above. See Madison Co., Iowa Marriage Index 1880-1899. Feb 2004 letter from Jack Merwin Richards, 7359 S. Eurdora Ct., Centennial, CO 80122 (303) 771-5093, email = jackmr@msn..com gives his line as follows: Jack M. Richards +Laura Ann Irvin Parents: Elmer Addison Richard and Helen Elizabeth Merwin G.Par: Bert Merwin and Clara Florence Pickle GG.Par Marcus Pickle and Marth Jane Ryner.Ulysses Braught and Martha Pickel were his grand uncle and aunt. I replied email 19 Feb.04. 24 April 2004 Jack sent to me the Leon, KS obituary data plus other Pickle data recorded in my research notes here. Leon, KS obituary (sent by Jack Richards) did not offer her parents' name (see her Research notes for complete obituary). Jack sent the following interesting notes (see copy of his email in Lorenzo N. Braught files):Her husband, Ulysses S. Braught survived her. Rev. Geo. H. Cavit, M. E. pastor of Leon, KS Methodist Church conducted services. Pall bearers were A.M> Kistler, Chris Doughty, Bill Guthrie, Wm. Wooten, Maurice Houser, and Burchard Meeks. Marcus Pickel (notice spelling) b. 27 Apr 1838, m.15 Dec 1859 at Groveland, Putnam Co., Indiana, d.6 Feb 1916 at Udall, KS. I assumed this to be the son of Martha's only surviving child mentioned in her obituary, so placed him in that record here.Surviving brothers were D.M. Pickel or Roachdale, IN and Ross Pickel of Rocky Ford, CO and 4 sisters Mrs. M.C. Myers of Omaha,NE; Mrs. Florence Merwin of Lamar, CO Mrs. C.B. Fuqua of Conroe, TX and Mres. A.F. Osborn of Thayer (KS?). Two children died in infancy. Jack reported that Martha had been cut from her mother's will (apparently displeased her mother somehow.
