    Martha Manning Goodlett Pennock, 93, Clarksville, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Montgomery Care and Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sykes Funeral Home with Dr. John David Laida officiating.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday. Sykes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Martha Pennock was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, on March 8, 1913, the youngest child of Adam Gold and Lucy Garrott Goodlett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Pennock II, whom she married on June 30, 1943; by her sister, Florence Goodlett Strassheim; by brothers Collier Whitfield Goodlett, Frank Lacey Goodlett, Baxter Goodlett and Clifton Vera Goodlett; and by nephews Collier Whitfield Goodlett Jr. and Walter Charles Strassheim. Survivors include a son, Joseph William Pennock III of New York City; nieces and nephews Joy Shelton Gass, Frank Gold Goodlett and Edward Lawrence Goodlett, all of Clarksville; Mary Lu Swift of Dickson, Tenn.; Marigold Coday of Yarrow Point, Washington; Betty Lu Strassheim Murray of St. Augustine, Florida, and Clifton Owen Goodlett of Old Hickory, Tenn. She was a favorite great-aunt to 29 great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

    Martha Pennock worked as a secretary to Albert Gore Sr. before he became a U.S. congressman and senator. An accomplished artist, she studied at the National Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois, and was active for many years in the New York City art scene. Following her return to Clarksville in the 1970s, she was staff artist for the Customs House Museum and later was writer for the Clarksville Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was also an active member of the Art Study Group in Clarksville, founded in 1908. Most recently, she was honored as a selectee for "Who's Who in Tennessee Nursing Homes." She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville.

    Memorials may be made to the Customs House Museum, the Clarksville Chapter of the American Red Cross or the Roxy Theatre.
