Granny was born in Liverpool, where her father was a shipbroker and owner of several small ships, also a Methodist circuit steward. Granny took her B.A. and Teaching Diploma (First Class) at Liverpool University. We met at a Methodist missionary conference at Swanwick in 1923 and became engaged there the following year. She came out to India to marry me in 1930. When we came home on our second furlough in 1945, her father gave her a house in West Kirby, which was sold when we came to Bromley, and 77 Hayes Road was bought in exchange. Granny did a good deal of teaching in Bangalore, and also at Farringtons School, Chislehurst for ten years.
