Marietta Barham Lanoux, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, musician and piano teacher died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. She was 80.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Randolph Lanoux.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, including her daughter, Lynelle Edler and her husband, Fred Edler, of Corpus Christi, Texas; son, Paul Lanoux, of Houston; son, Louis Lanoux and his children, Elizabeth and Philip Lanoux, of Jackson, Miss.; son, Robert Lanoux and wife Susan, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and children Kelly Lanoux Harris and husband Philip Harris, of Prescott, Ark., Madison Thibodaux, of Birmingham, Ala., James Lanoux, Felice DiCristofalo and son Hudson, of Plano, Texas, Fay Lanoux, of Denton, Texas, and Christopher Lanoux, of Tuscaloosa; son, Raymond Lanoux and wife Kristine and their son, Nathaniel, of Richardson, Texas.
Marietta was born in Mena, Ark. She graduated from the University of Arkansas and earned a master of music from LSU. She was active in the LSU Delta Delta Delta Alumni Association. During her more than 50 year career as a piano teacher, she served as president of the Music Club of Baton Rouge, the Philharmonic Music Club and the Baton Rouge Music Teachers Association. She was named outstanding music teacher of 2005 by the Louisiana Music Teachers Association. Marietta created the "Baton Rouge Chamber Music Players" program for young musicians and presented a program at the Music Teacher National Association's convention.
Memorial service at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the UUMC Columbarium Fund.
