Marie Kuperus, age 98, of Aplington, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the oldest daughter of Harm and Dena (Bronsema) Van Hauen on April 15, 1916, near Parkersburg. Marie attended country school in rural Butler County. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa.

On January 12, 1937, Marie married Sam Kuperus at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville. They spent the first years of their married life in Pease, Minnesota. During this time their son Gaylen was born. In 1945, they moved back to Parkersburg and bought the Parkersburg Produce and Hatchery. Marie was in charge of the Hatchery and she loved it. They spent the next 28 years in this business and retired in 1973. The next 13 years they enjoyed wintering in Texas.

Marie was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. She was active in the Ladies Aide and the Sunshine Circle. Marie enjoyed gardening, but her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

Marie died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Maple Manor Village in Aplington. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Sam on October 17, 2001, her parents; a granddaughter, Gale Kuperus.

Marie is survived by one son, Gaylen and his wife, Janice Kuperus of Clarion, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jamie (Peggy) Kuperus of Oregon, Illinois, Jon (Amy) Kuperus of Polk City, Iowa and Robyn (Jim) Drew of Dixon Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Lee (fiancé, Sarah) Kuperus Megan Kuperus and Katie (Dustin) Leo; one sister, Jeanette Weber of Waverly.

Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Christian Reformed Church with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg, Iowa.
