Maria Eva Sommer was born at New Hanover, Pennsylvania in 1751, daughter of Hans Georg Sommer and his wife, Maria Margaretha, and baptized at the New Hanover Lutheran Church. She married Martin Swartz in Virginia about 1770 and lived on land near present-day Toms Brook, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. "Mary Eve" was co-executor, with her son, John, of Martin Swartz's will and after reporting settlement of the estate in 1818, she sold her dower interest in the land in October 1819 and may have gone to Indiana with some of her children that fall.
