Peggy and her husband (Hiram Michael Smith) entered land in Pierce Twp., Washington Co. IN, SW Quarter, Section 32, in 1809 in Leach Bottoms. They later moved to Tenessee. Smith, a drinking man, made life so difficult for Peggy that she made the long dangerous journey from Tennessee to her father's home in Washington Co. IN. with her and her four small children on one horse. Her divorce settlement is on record in the Clerk's Office in the Court house in Salem, IN.
