Margaret Parkison was born August 7, 1781 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. She accompanied her parents, Daniel and Catherine (Overmyer) Parkison to Montgomery County, Virginia in 1788 and then to the part of Fairfield County, Ohio which later became Perry County, in 1808. She was married in Perry County on February 11, 1819 to William Larue, who was born in 1794/95 in New Jersey. William and Margaret, who was known as "Peggy", lived with her father, Daniel Parkison, until 1833, when Daniel sold his saw mill to Larue. After that Daniel lived with them until his death in 1838. The couple also helped raise some of her nieces and nephews. In her affidavit in February of 1832 attesting to her father's age and service in the Revolutionary War, Margaret noted that she had never been separated from her father for more than 1 month. She signed the affidavit with her mark, although census data indicate that she could read. Margaret died July 6, 1860 in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 29 days, and is buried in the village cemetery at New Reading, Ohio, which is located just northwest of Somerset. It has been reported that prior to her marriage to Larue, she had wed a Charles Dodd, but this has not been substantiated as her license to wed William Larue was issued in the name of Margaret Parkison. However, she is known to have had issue, but it has not been identified. No Larue issue has ever been identified, but the reference in the James Parkison Civil War letters of Dodd connection and the information that you have given me indicates that she probably had children by Dodd, divorced him, taking her name back and then married William Larue.
