Margaret Noonan's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1880, when she was living in New York City with her husband John Ralston, a silver refiner and smelter. Margaret claimed to have been born in Ireland around the late 1840s or early 1850s, and to have emigrated to America in around 1867, marrying John some time around 1873.
Margaret reported in 1900 that she had had eight children, but by 1900 only four of her children were still alive. Margaret has yet to be traced after the 1910 census. Her husband John died in 1914.
