Facts and Events
Margaret McIntosh’s origins have yet to be established. The age given when she died suggests she was born around 1780, whilst she indicated in the 1841 census that she was born in Perthshire. Her first confirmed sighting is on 4th November 1804, when she married William Scott at Fowlis Wester in Perthshire. Margaret and William went on to have ten children baptised at Fowlis Wester between 1805 and 1823. William worked as a gamekeeper on the Abercairny estate at Fowlis Wester. It is not clear when William died; he was still listed as gamekeeper at Abercairny in 1833, but no later records for him have been found. Margaret’s eldest daughter, Christian, married in 1834 at Kinnoull, about fifteen miles east of Fowlis Wester, on the opposite bank of the River Tay to Perth. Her daughter Elizabeth also married at Kinnoull in 1840. It is quite likely that Margaret had moved there with her daughters, perhaps after William’s death. Margaret appears in the 1841 census living in Kinnoull with her daughter Elizabeth in the Bridgend area, which was effectively a suburb of Perth. Margaret died on 3rd July 1843, when she was said to be 63 years old. Her cause of death was given as cancer. She was buried three days later at Kinnoull. References
