Margarget Javins was Margaret "Peggy" Compton. Peggy was the daughter of a
woman who had been captive of the Miami Indians. Peggy's father was an
indian. She married John Henry Kinder sr. who had also been captured by
the Miami when he was a boy. the left the indians and settled in or around
Brushton, WV. In 1784 they had twins. John Henry jr, and Barbara. In about
1790 John sr. was killed by indians on a raiding party. Peggy, being half
indian was spared. She settled in Browntowm (around Marmet) where she met
and married Daniel Javins sr. I have not yet tried to find Peggy through
the Compton line. My guess it would be nearly impossible.
Karen, I received an email in October (2000) from a gentleman named Carl
who shared the following fascinating story, which could very well be about
your ancestor.
"My great-great-great-grandmother married Daniel Javins in 1794 in Kanawha
Co. Va.( now WV). She had been married to John Kinder. He was killed by
Indians in 1790 at their Coal River home.
She was somehow spared. She took her twin daughters son down stream to the
fort at St. Albans. The Indians had burned it killed all the people there.
She went to the fort at Elk river. Later she went to the fort at Marmet
married Daniel Javins in 94. They had 5 children, Samuel, Daniel, 3
daughters.
Samuel left to work on the river boats, the daughters married or died.
Daniel stayed with his half-brother John Kinder after his father mother
both died of an illness. All of the Javins I ever met were from Daniel or
Samuel of Brush Creek, West Va. Also most of the Kinders were from Brush
Creek, WV. They all have the same woman as their ancestor."
