  On 2 June, 1778, John Chaplin married at Ipswich his cousin, Margaret Chaplin, born in Ipswich, 7 September, 1757, youngest daughter of Deacon Moses and Hannah (Stringer) Chaplin. They proved to be couple of unusual character and stamina, as witnessed by their two pioneering ventures and their remarkable family of thirteen sons and no daughters.
