On January 5, 1905, M. D. Adkins (son of William J. Adkins)filed a Confederate Pension Application. He was born in HenryCo. GA on July __?, 1845 and he enlisted on Nov. 1863 inTrenton, LA in Harrison's command, 3rd Louisiana Cavalry,Company F.

The company officers were Captain Euell and Colonel McNeil . Hewas not wounded and served until the end of the war. At thesurrender he was in Delhi, LA.

M.D. states he has been in Louisiana for 50 years in Claiborneand Webster Parish. He has been twice married and his presentwife is 55 years old. No children. He was a farmer and hestates his earnings as "nothing or nearly so". He has $150 "alltold".

When asked what prevents him from earning a living he states "old age, worn out"

He uses no intoxicants.

Comrades during the war were J. M. Almand, Haynesville, LA; ObieAubry, Arcadia, LA; J. A. Colbert, Teton, LA; and Charles R.Davis , Minden, LA.

A copy of a check in the amount of $60.00 written on December24, 1923 was attached with a note in handwriting across thecheck "Died, Nov 14, 1923".

A handwritten letter is also enclosed from his wife, Edna Adkinswhich states:

"Dear Sirs: I come again to appeal for my husband's pension that was due himwhen he died, Nov. 14, 1923. I am in needy circumstances. I amjust asking what is due him when he died. Ler me hear from you soon or else I will appeal to the Governor. Mrs. Edna Adkins Box 33 Sibley, Louisiana"

There is a note stating that they married in 1905.

This is a new piece of information on M.D. L. Adkins, son ofWilliam J. We knew that he married Jane Richardson Rickman in1867 in Claiborne Parish. She has children from a previousmarriage but had none with M.D.L. So now we know he remarriedin 1905 to Edna. Their marriage is not listed in ClaiborneParish. Since Edna was living in Sibley, LA they might havemarried either in Webster or Lincoln Parish. There are Sibleysin both parishes. Found! They married in Webster Parish.
