Obituary from Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, UT) January 1, 2010:
Our dear Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully December 28, 2009 after a brave battle with advanced Alzheimer's. At a young age Marcine excelled in academics so much that she was admitted to the University of Utah at age 16 and had her teaching degree at age 20. She spent her career teaching at various elementary, middle and high schools in Salt Lake City. She loved the joy of teaching and loved her students, often helping troubled students outside of the classroom to ensure their success.
Marcine was married to her sweetheart Dennis for over 40 years and they had three beautiful children together. After losing both of her precious daughters Marcine became instrumental in the upbringing of her young grandchildren. She never let such a loss bring her down or take away from her amazing zeal for living. She was truly grateful for everyday of life that she lived no matter how hard things seemed. Marcine was a true example of some of the most important virtues in this world. She placed family above all else, she embraced the idea of unconditional love towards others, and shared so passionately her testimony of the power of education. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. But the love she left in this world will remain in the hearts she touched.
Marcine is preceded in death by daughters Pauline Schiffgen and Nadine Shaw and grandson Ryan Schiffgen. She is survived by her dear sweet son Norm Shaw (Patty), husband Dennis Shaw, and grandchildren Matt Schiffgen, Alex Shaw (Amber) and Amanda Shaw. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Marcine's life at a later date.
