BIRTH: MARRIAGE: DEATH: Mahlon received a certificate of removal from Quakertown, NJ to Deep River, NC MM on 10, 5, 1787. He was accepted on this certificate, 7th, 1st mo, 1788, but when he later requested a certificate to Westfield there was a complaint that he "allowed fidling and Dauncing in his house", and he was finally dis-owned, 5, 18, 1799. Sometime during these years he had moved across the line into Grayson Co., VA which still would have been in Westfield MM (Chestnut Creek Preparative Meeting). From 1807 on and for a number of years he appears in the Grayson Co., VA court records as juryman, etc. In one instance, he proved he bought 460 acres from Moses Foley before 1 June 1812. In 1830/31, Randolph Collins moved his parents, Mahlon & Phebe, to Lawrence Co., IN where Mahlon bought land from the government. Mahlon only lived a few years after this and when his estate was settled in 1834, Jacob Noblett, a son-in-law, was appointed administrator, 20 Nov 1834. William Connelly, who seems in some way to be connected to the family, was reimbursed for services for "collecting and fetching out from Virginia" and for planks, nails, and paint for Mahlon's coffin. Phebe acknowledged receipt of dowry 13 Dec. 1834. SOURCE: "The Jonathan Collins Family & Descendants" and the Supplement, by Ruby Collins Markland. < Data merged from Ancestral File: 21 July 1991.

His gravestone says he died 30 Oct 1834 at age 84. However, the index says he was born 1756, without providing a source. Presumably other records place his birth date in or close to 1756, rather than 1750, as suggested by his supposed age at death.
