Mabel Marie Needles, 94, born in Riverdale to Emma and Louis Bishop and having resided in nearby Dolton for the last 75 years. She has lived in the house that had been her home since 1945. It is here that Mabel finished raising her children and operated her beauty shop in the front parlor. Her late husband John W. Needles was an elected officer of the Dolton Park Board for 43 years. Mabel continued after his passing in her involvement in the community. Mabel was preceded in death by dear husband John W. Needles; their eldest son John C. Needles; her brother Clarence Bishop, sisters: Dorothy Ursitti and Lois Sbalchiero; and by her beloved friend and Guardian Angel Ben Stepanian. Mabel is survived by her children: daughter-in-law Yoshiko (widow of her eldest son John), her son Gene and his wife Kathleen, her daughter Faye (widow of John Honchell); her grandchildren Gene (Charlene) Needles, Colleen (Tom) Steward, Carol (Chris) Kaas and Steven (Amanda) Honchell; her great-grandchildren: Alexander, Coleman and Paige Needles, Thomas, Jack and Annie Steward and Kathleen Honchell; and many nieces and nephews. We are grateful that Mabel spent her final days at her home in Dolton in the constant company and care of her family and friends. We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to the representatives of Ingall's Hospice for the excellent care and support they provided. Funeral services for Mabel Needles, will be held Wednesday, February 3, 9 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home, 13820 Lincoln Ave., Dolton to St. Jude the Apostle Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Her family will receive visitors Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment Oakland Memory Lanes Cemetery in Dolton. Her love for us was matched only by her faith. Her life long devotion to the Holy Mother was known to all.
