  10. Mrs. John Beem
    Mabel E. Balcom was born in Allendale, Ottawa county, Michigan, Sept. 9, 1881, and died at the Gerber Memorial hospital December 29, 1919, following an operation which was performed on the 27th. She was 38 years, three months and 20 days old.
    She moved to Fremont with her parents in 1898 and the same year became a member of the Church of Christ. She was married to John M. Beem Feb. 24, 1904, since which time they have resided at their farm at Reeman.
    Mrs. Beem was especially active in church and community life and was prominently identified with all the forward movements of her church and home locality. She was interested in the organization of the Crystal Beach Association which has purchased beautiful grounds near Frankfort, and was the secretary-treasurer of the association for the Fremont church. During the war Mrs. Beem took a leading part in the war work activities at Reeman and was one of the most active members of the Red Cross.
    She leaves to mourn her death her husband, a daughter, mother, five brothers and a sister besides a host of friends.
    The funeral services were held from the Church of Christ Thursday afternoon, Rev. David P. Morris officiating. Interment in Maple Grove cemetery.
