Birth registration application was made on the 8th of March, 1935 by his grandmother Helen Wellwood who certified that both of Lynn's parents were dead.

2008 Note from one of Lynn's sons: My father spent the early years of the 1930's as a pilot in the Yukon Territory developing, building, and running several gold mining operations for a group of investors from New York and Saginaw, which ultimately is what drew him to the Saginaw area. He was an accomplished business man working in his career in companies both huge, medium and down to small enterprises of his own.

1930's note (undated) from Lynn to his grandmother which confirms that he worked in gold mining and was a pilot: Dear Grandma, Elinor writes that you are not feeling so well and I'm terribly sorry to hear it. Do drop me a line and say that you are up to your old self again and that you'll get ready for that airplane ride I'm coming back to give you this fall. The gold mine I told you about is doing fine and I am now General Manager of it. I'll bring you back a sample when I come in October. Say hello to all the folks and get better in a hurry. Love, Lynn Staples, Carcross, Yukon Territory.

1936, Sept., 25th article in the Daily Olympian of Olympia, WA, described a trip Lynn made in a flying boat from Carcross, Yukon to Vancouver, BC. The plane was forced down by bad weather for three days and then resumed flight only to run out of fuel over the Queen Charlotte Sound. The plane and the two passengers drifted for 19 hours before a fishing boat found it and towed it to Port Hardy where it took on fuel and continued to Vancouver. One of the passengers was Mrs. Henry Field, the daughter-in-law of Marshall Field, the merchandising magnate and the other was a mechanic, George Land.
