Luther Whitten, 86, a lifelong resident of the Auburn community, died Thursday at a Topeka hospital. He was born May 1, 1871, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian church and had served on its board of trustees 51 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Whitten of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Carl Moore of the home, Mrs. Ralph Roose of 5008 West Tenth, Mrs Dewey Koci of route 9, Mrs. Cleon Lowry of Wakarusa and Kathryn Whitten of Emporia and two brothers, Allan Whitten of Wakarusa and James Whitten of route 1. Twenty grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. Services are set for 2 pm Saturday at Auburn Presbyterian church with burial in Auburn cemetery. Wall-Diffenderfer mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
