  • June 3 1783, Lodowick O'Neal and his wife Susannah conveyed to their son-in-law John Rogers 630 acres where they lived and 11 slaves in trust, and the notes I have say: "3 slaves for use of Susannah during her life then afterwards for the benefit of those claiming under the will of Capt. William Carr, dec'd, then slaves for use of said Lodowick, his heirs forever." [Source: Spotsylvania County, Virginia records].
