Facts and Events
Info. from iagenweb.org/board/obituaries.: On Wednesday, April 17, 1907, the people of the east end of Union county were startled to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. J.L. Jeter. Lucy C. Evans was born in Morgan County, Indiana, April 21, 1846. In 1844, she came to Union County, Iowa with her parents, who were extensive land owners, living on the farm on which Beulah church now stands, and on which is located the beautiful cemetery which was the last resting place of the parents, and now likewise their daughter, Mrs. Lucy Evans Jeter, which with the exception of Samuel Evans, was the last survivor of a family who was among the very earliest pioneers of Union County. She was married to James L. Jeter, October 3, 1861. To them were born eight children, one of whom, a daughter, died in infancy. Her husband, two daughters, Edna, wife of Charles Zahller, Cora, wife of John Zahller, five sons, Maurice, Charles, Henry, Roy and John, twenty-two grandchildren and a brother, Samuel Evans, survive her. All her life, she was identified with the church. In speaking of death, she expressed her confidence in God. The funeral services were held in the Bethel church Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. George McCracken, of Prescott. All the children were present except Maurice who resides in Montana, and was unable to be here. Her obituary also said a daughter died in infancy. This must have been the child named Buena Vista A. Jeter since all the other children are named in the obit. I believe I got the names of the children from census records. |
