"Two Are Killed In Plane Crash On Goat Hunt"

Bodies of two Alaska Airlines mechanics, killed Tuesday when their Monocoupe crashed 12 miles east of Palmer, were being evacuated today by a trail crew of the 10th Rescue Squadron. The dead men are, Wilbur Carroll, pilot, and Lee Sinclair. They had taken off from Merritt field Tuesday in Carroll's plane to scout goats for a hunting trip they planned later. Their crushed plane was first sighted late yesterday by a B-17. Alaska Airlines had notified the rescue unit yesterday morning that the men were overdue after an AA Cesna piloted by Pat Bliss had failed to locate the wreckage. The plane was found halfway between the Matanuska River and Knick glacier in wild country. A helicopter, piloted by Lt. William A. Weed, landed two flight surgeons, Lt. Col. Robert C. Love and Lt. G. A. Gulan, at the scene. They found the plane occupants dead. The rescue unit trio stayed near the wreck overnight. At 5:30 a.m. today another helicopter was sent in with two members of a trail crew. Additional trail crewmen were flown in to Palmer airport and shuttled into the bush by helicopter. Carroll's body will be taken to Bly's Funeral Chapel. He is survived by two children living here. Sinclair is survived by a wife and three children.
