Louisa Drinkwater was born in New Jersey and came to Pennsylvania with her family before her father enlisted in the Union Army in 1864. She was initially admitted to the Emmaus Orphans School; she was transferred to White Hall 12 Apr 1869 and transferred to Chester Springs School 1 Sept 1872. She was discharged on 4 Oct 1873 to Harrisburg to live with her brother.

In the 1880 Census, Louisa is a 21 yo wife and housekeeper living in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. She is the wife of Edward McMullen.

1900 U.S. Census: Louisa McMullen is a 39 yo widow boarding with her sister, Alice Johnson. Louisa states she was married 10 years.
