About Louis Lemberger
Louis E. Lemberger was born 11 March 1914 in Poland, the son of Benjamin Lemberger and his wife Celia. In about 1921, Louis' family emigrated from Poland to the United States and lived in Bronx, New York for several years.
Prior to 1952, Louis had come to Los Angeles, California, when he and his cousin, Harry Poll went into the pickle manufacturing business together. They bought out Harry's uncle, Louis Schorchett's part-ownership of Fairfax Foods, which was then one of the largest pickle manufacturers in the country, manufacturing the popular Homade Pickles which were carried in all major supermarket delicatessans. Shortly thereafter, Fairfax Foods was acquired by Early California Foods, becoming its Homeade Foods Division.
Louis became known as the "Kosher Pickle King of Los Angeles". He passed away on 10 April 2006 while living in Fullerton, California and was survived by his wife, a son and seven grandchildren.
