Lionel J. Marcoux 1916-2011 BENNINGTON Lionel J. Marcoux, 95, a resident of Safford Street, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Crescent Manor Care Center. Born in Bennington June 20, 1916, he was the son of the late Adjutor and Rosalie (Roy) Marcoux. He received his education in the Bennington schools. Lionel was one of the very first graduates of the former St. Josephs Business College in Bennington. Lionel married the former Elizabeth (Betty) McCoy at St. Francis de Sales Church on November 6, 1942. Mrs. Marcoux died December 8, 2006. In early years Lionel was employed at both the Valentine Mill and Holden Leonard Mill in Bennington. He later worked for 35 years at the Bijur Lubricating Company in Bennington. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and a member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567. A former member of Bennington Moose Lodge 1233, Lionel served several years as the club secretary. Lionel was a very loving and compassionate father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to be with his family and friends and was always there when you needed him. He loved to dance, play cards, garden and cook. He was an amazing chef and loved to share it with his family and friends. He was extremely generous, gentle and loved to joke. He was always the life of the party. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and David Alexander of Bennington and Jo-Ann and William Luth of Maple Plain, Minnesota; grandson, Shawn Alexander, his wife Kim and their son Ian David Alexander of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Michelle Alexander, her husband John Connell and their children, Cyonn Alexander and Autumn and Linnaia Connell of Bennington; a granddaughter, Paula Alexander-Salazar, her husband Bernardo Salazar and their children Emiliano and Oliveri Salazar of Bennington; grandsons Chase and Cole Marcoux and their mother, Laura Callanan of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Lionel was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Paul Marcoux, who died April 2, 2009; and by four siblings, Regina Rice, Lorretta Webster, Ernest and Philias Marcoux. The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. There will be no calling hours. Private committal services will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Lionel J. Marcoux's memory may be made to either Sacred Heart School or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
