Marzell was born December 16, 1925 in Goree, Texas to the late Benjamin and Bertha (Boyles) Garrett. She and her family moved to Padgett when she was in the second grade. Her Daddy was a farmer. She attended Bittercreek School and Olney High School. At age 17, Marzell left Olney to work at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas. There she met and married the love of her life, Edgar Hall on June 5, 1943. They lived in Indianapolis, Indiana until the end of World War II. In 1947, Marzell and Edgar moved back to Olney and became lifetime residents of the community. She only worked a few years at Haggar Slacks while raising her family. She and Edgar did the bookkeeping together for several businesses in Olney. Marzell loved her state of Texas and its beautiful fields and hills. She also cherished her poetry throughout her life and could recite many by heart. Marzell's life was centered around her home, her husband, and family. With a silent demure she took care of many family members who were sickly and unable to care for themselves. This also included many of the elderly in town. She devoted herself to them all and they could always count on her. Marzell accepted the Lord at a very young age and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olney and attended services faithfully until the last few years of her life; then she never missed a Sunday service on the television. After her husband's death in 1988, Marzell lived independently for twenty-one years. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Frankie Ann, and a brother, Henry "Buddy".
Marzell is survived by her daughters: Marcia Dodson and husband Bill of Springfield, Missouri, Kathy Phillips and husband Randy of Panhandle, Texas, Nancy Eubank and husband Gary of Weatherford, Texas; a brother Benny Dan Garrett and wife Edna Raye of Jacksboro, Texas; six grandchildren: John Dodson and wife Cindy of Springfield, Missouri, Laura Flowers also of Springfield, Benjamin Barrera of New Castle, Colorado, Jennifer Lewis and husband Shane of Willow Park, Texas, Christopher Lynch and wife Tonya of Olney, Texas, Joshua Lynch and wife Lani of Weatherford, Texas; and twelve great-grandchildren: Evan, Elliot, Garrett, Parker, Elizabeth, Emily, Jack, Sidney, Madison, Mallory, Renee, and Nancy.
