Lida taught piano and served as organist for her church. In her Bentonville, AR retirement home, she had a small organ in the living room and would play hymns. 60 years later, her grandson still recalls her singing "Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary" while playing the organ. Her husband Henry would stand nearby, corncob pipe in hand, watching her play and humming along with the tume.

    From the Northwest Arkansas Times, April 20, 1966:
    Bentonville-Mrs. Lida Hildegard Alquist, 73, of Bentonvllle, died in a Tulsa hospital yesterday. She was born in Louisville, Ky., and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors are the husband, Henry E. Alquist of the home; one son, Henry Jr. of Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. A. M. Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. William Bronell of Vista, Calif.; one brother, Robert Johnson of West Palm Beach., Fla., and three grandchildren. Funeral service was to be at 2 p.m. today at Callison-McKinney Chapel with burial in Fargo, N. D
