He died on 18 Aug 1871 in the Hilly Upland section of Lewis County, WV of old age as reported by his son, G.W. Woodyard. After Mary (Ford) Woodyard's death, Lewis Woodyard remarried to Racheal Hacker, a widow, on 06 Aug 1865 in Gilmer County, WV
