"Lewis Hall was a pioneer of Gasconade County and belongs to the second generation of Halls. He served on the first Grand Jury of Gasconade County in 1821. Prior to the meeting of this first Grand Jury, Daniel Boone had come in and made surety for the appearance of John McDonald for assault and battery of Hiram Scoot. This old record is in a fine state of preservation in the recorders office of Gasconade County. Lewis Hall was born in Kentucky in 1794 and was the second son of the original Hall that settled on the Little Berger, in 1801. Lewis Hall married Mary Gibson in 1817. Mary Gibson was born October 2, 1798. Their children, the third generation, were Silas, Samuel and Sarah. Samuel Hall married Barbara Zumwalt. The Zumwalts came in about 1812 and settled near the Little Berger. Sarah Hall married William Christman. They crossed the plains to Californis in 1849 during the great gold rush and trace of them has been lost. Lewis Hall helped lay out Franklin County. He and his wife were both buried in the old Roark and Zumwalt Cemetery.
