My ancestor, Lewis D. Ambrose, moved from Hillsboro to Circleville with his family then to Ill. in 1855, but his brother, William 1805-1886 lived his life in Hillsboro I believe his brother, George 1803-1880 did also. Your ancestors could be descendents of theirs. I don't have record of the children. Marie Pheiffer
Hi, James: I am also a descendant of William Henry AMBROSE, thru William Hanby, Jr. I compared the tree you posted with my file and found a couple of things you might want to check. Nancy LIEB was the wife of Lewis Duckwall AMBROSE, not Mathias. I have their children. Mathias (1810-1833) is a quandry. Several other researchers and the IGI show a DOD for him of 9 Nov 1833 in Logan Co, Illinois. Yet I found a record of a marriage, Mathias to Sarah PERKINS, that appears to be this Mathias, as the son of William Hanby was a minister who moved to Pickaway County, Ohio, and Mathias and Sarah had a son, William Eliphaz, born in 1844 in Pickaway County. I did not have the marriages for your Frederick AMBROSE. Where did you find his DOB and DOD? The date for Frederick coming to Ohio MAY be a little early, although it is certainly possible. His brother, William Hanby, Sr, made the move in 1815, and built the Ambrose Chapel in Hillsboro, Ohio. I had thought William chose Ohio because of the trip he made with Bishop Newcomer in 1812 through Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. But perhaps he already had family here?!?
I believe Jacob AMBROSE on the 1850 census in Champaign County is William Henry's son. You will note he is listed with son, Jacob, and both ages fit. I have children for some of the marriages that you do not show. However, I can't add anything much to what you have for Jacob, Soloman and Frederick. Solomon died in Chillicothe. Have never run across a Cornelius AMBROSE. Was he in Hillsboro? The Highland/Brown/Champaign County AMBROSES appear to be descendants of William Hanby and Jacob. Catherine AMBROSE and Henry CLOVER moved to Chillicothe, and then Columbus. Would be glad to send you a tree if you like.
