Elizabeth JaneTreadway, granddaugther of Sophronia Burr and thus great-granddaugher of Catherine Beasley, says Leonard Switzer's "family were Salzburgers originally from the Province of Salzburg, now Austria. In the late 1600s and early 1700s, because of religion, they left and moved through Switzerland and Holland to England. George II...Gen. Oglethorphe was settling Georgia (in the new world (USA) in 1733 and the King supported the Sulzburgers' plea to immigrate to America. To my knowldge, Michael Switzer and two sons (no wife mentioned although I feel she was with them). I first found him in Savannah in 1757-8. He was a wheelright, was granted a "town lot" and a "garden lot." I own a set of the grant books published by the Georgia Department of Surveyor General. It contains all the parishes in Georgia as they were called in 'Colonial Georgia'."
