Jason & Lydia (Cook) Hitchcock of Cheshire, CT were the parents of Lemuel Hitchcock who married his first cousin Mamre Hotchkiss, daughter of Daniel & Mamre (Cook). Lemuel & Mamre Hitchcock had ten children:
Lydia, Thomas, Rhoena, Mamre, Phebe, Lemuel, Zalmon & Antrim, all born in Cheshire, CT, and Lucius and Tirzah, born in Durham, Greene County, NY.
In 1794 Lemuel, with his eldest son Thomas, crossed the mountains to Windham, NY where they laid claim to a parcel of land. The following year they brought the rest of the family from Durham to Big Hollow (now called Maplecrest), a village within the township of Windham. Lt. Lemuel Hitchcock and his family were the first settlers of Big Hollow.
