    L. C. Lane, farmer, merchant and postmaster at Graysville, was born in Randolph County, Mo., in 1850, and is a son of Dr. A. W. and Frances Lane, natives of Albemarie County, Va., where they were reared and married. They went to Randolph County, Mo., during the early history of that county, and were residents of the same until 1856, when they moved to Putnam County, and located in Martinstown, where they passed the remainder of their lives. After coming to Missouri Mr. Lane began the study of medicine, which he afterward practiced with good success. He had previously been a farmer and merchant. His death occurred in 1878. Mrs. Lane died about the commencement of the late war, and was a worthy member of the Christian Church. L. C. Lane passed his boyhood and youth at home, during which time he received a comon-school education. He was married in 1868 to Miss Mary, daughter of Ail and Rebecca Hatfield, and a native of Elm Township. To this union eight children have been born, of whom five are living: Ail W., Winfred E., Martin Henry, Neal Martin and Narcissa J. He at first made his home in Martinstown, and engaged in merchandizing until 1881, when he removed to Graysville, where he has a farm of 130 acres, under a good state of cultivation, and all the result of industry and good management. In 1887, he erected a store building upon his farm, in which he conducted a general store. He was appointed postmaster in March, 1887, and has been township treasurer about six years. He is a public-spirited man, and always interested in the general welfare of the county and its educational projects. He is a Republican, and cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Grant in 1872. Himself and his wife are members of the United Brethren Church.
