- ↑ LaVERNE ELIZABETH HOWARD (nee SNIP) Crown Point, Indiana Age 87, a long time resident of Crown Point, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007, at Saint Anthony's Home, Crown Point, where she was a long time resident. Survived by children, Larry (Shirley) Howard of Hawaii, Paula Freyman of Crown Point; sister, Carol (Robert) Logan of Kouts; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews; and 10 cousins. Preceded in death by loving husband of 64 years, Thomas H. Howard. LaVerne was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Crown Point, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Munster, and a long time member of St. Christo-pher's Episcopal Church, Crown Point. She grew up in Chicago, graduated from Nash Grammar School, Austin High School and St. Luke's Nursing School. A member of the National Association of Nurses, she worked in her chosen profession for over 30 years: as a private duty nurse in New York during WWII, at the TB Sanitarium in Crown Point, as a visiting nurse, and many years working for the state as a nursing home surveyor. LaVerne and Tom enjoyed traveling abroad and made several trips to the UK with their grandchildren.
