Will of Larkin Carley 1841
In the name of God, amen, be it
remembered that I Larkin Carley being very weak and low in body but of
perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the
mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to
die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say
principally & first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of the all
mighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in
a descent Christian burial nothing doubting but at the general Resurection I
shall receive the same by the might power of God and as touching such
worldly as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life - I give device
and dispose of the same in the following manner & form - first I give and
bequeath to my well beloved wife Mary Carley all my worldly estate that I am
now blessed with at this time - my lands I now live on and all my stock and
household and kitchen furniture and every article that is not named to be
hers her lifetime and at her decease the land to be equally divided between
my two sons - Charles Carley & Henry Carley if they stay with her and take
care of her in her lifetime - and if not to which or any of my children that
will take care of her - and the four children that now live with me - Charles
Carley and Henry and Rachel Carley and Cloe Carley to receive their portions
in proportion of the rest of the children - and if any balance at her decease
to be at her own disposal and the rest of my children - George Carley, Nancy
Green and Ruth Anderson, Edmond Carley, Elizabeth Green, Hiram Carley,
Solomon Carley, Sarah Brown, Anna Brown, Clement Carley - These children all
having received Their portions I cut them off with receiving fifty cents
apiece, and I do hereby appoint George Carley and Peter Barnes Executors of
this my last will and testament - in witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal, this 9th day of June AD 1841.
