From the obituary of Kitty (Day) McNeish, Alton Evening Telegraph, January 21, 1944: 

"Mrs Kitty May (Mae) McNeish, 59, of Marion, Illinois, who accompanied her husband to Alton in December to enter him in St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of a heart ailment died at 4:45 am today (Jan 21, 1944) in the hospital where her husband remains a patient.  McNeish, 79, remains in serious condition and has not been told of his wife's death."
