KENNETH PROFITT, 66, passed away from this life at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004, with his family by his side.

A life long resident of Wolfe County, he was born March 13, 1938, on Big Andy Ridge near Rogers, KY, the youngest son of the late Ernest and Ellar Hobbs Profitt.

He is survived by his wife and life long companion, Norma Rose Profitt (dau. of James Ernest Rose and Viola Taulbee Rose), of Campton; his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Kenny, Sherry and Seth Profitt of Rogers, KY.

Other survivors include one sister, Geraldine Woods and husband, Woody, of Xenia, OH; three brothers, Merle Profitt and wife, Juanita, of Indianapolis, IN. Frank Profitt and wife,Virginia of Rogers, and Fred Profitt, also of Rogers; his mother-in-law, Viola Rose, of Campton; two brothers-in-law, Wendell L. Rose and wife, Shirley, of Campton, and Walter C. Rose and wife, Marica, of Carlisle, OH; and a sister-in-law, Bess Rose Miller and husband, Cecil, of Trenton, OH. Many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive.

Upon graduating from Wolfe County High in 1956, he joined the Army and served his country two years before returning home. He then spent the rest of his life as a self-employed businessman. From 1963 until 2002, he owned and operated Profitt's Garage at Leeco, Profitt's General Store, Parkway Furniture, and Parkway Carpets, all of Campton.

During the 1970's he was elected and served one term as mayor of Campton. He was active in the Jaycees and again served his country as a member of the local Selective Service Board. He remained a member of Torrent Masonic Lodge #711.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed a reputation of honesty and fairness in all his dealings. The one hobby that he passionately enjoyed as a young man was playing his banjo and guitar. For many years every weekend a large number of musicians and others would gather at his farm on Big Andy Ridge and be ' a-picking and a-grinnin' " to the wee hours of the morning.

Visitation was held Monday, April 12, 2004 after 5: p.m. at the Shackelford Funeral Home; also after 11:a:m. Tuesday April 13, at the Campton First Church of God. Funeral services followed at 1:00 p.m.at the church with burial in the Evans Cemetery, Campton, KY, with Shackleford Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Casketbears were his nephews: William Ernest Profitt, Fred Profitt, Frank Keith Profitt, Donald Wade Profitt, Gregory Scott Profitt, and Randall Todd Stone.

Honorary pallbearers were: Harold Booth, J.C. Brooks, Dennis Brooks, Harold Rose, Elsie and Roy Kash, Cheryl Reynolds, and Kathy Profitt.
