'The will of Ann Hoskins, "widow, wife of John Hoskins of Windsor," made 17 Aug. 1660, inventory taken 1 June 1663 [Manwaring, 1:207-8] gave to son Thomas Hoskins and his son John Hoskins, and provided that if the latter were to die under the age of 21, the testatrix's whole estate was to be distributed equally "amongst the children of my daughter Wilton's daughter Mary Marshall" and one of the two overseers named in this will was "my son David Wilton." Here then is the problem: Katharine, wife of David Wilton, was the daughter of Ann (------) Hoskins, widow of John Hoskins. But was she also the daughter of John Hoskins? We do not know. She may have been, and may have been portioned at marriage, which would explain why she was not mentioned in Hoskins' will; but she may also have been a daughter of Widow Ann Hoskins by a previous marriage.'
