Facts and Events
geni:occupation Säveltäjä, musiikinarvostelija ja sanomalehtimies geni:about_me Karl Flodin (1858—1925) was the leading Finnish music critic at the end of the 19th century, remembered, among other things, for his scathing condemnation of Sibelius’s Lemminkäinen Suite in 1897. Few people remember that he was also a composer. Flodin’s oeuvre consists of small-scale compositions, including solo songs for his singer wife, choral songs and piano pieces. His music is in a lyrical Romantic vein. His most notable piano composition is the "Suite mignonne" in five movements, a varied but well-balanced work with a piano texture reminiscent of the short pieces of Schumann and Grieg. The slow middle movement also hints at Chopin. Flodin’s other piano works include "Quatre idylles", "Solitude", "Eglogue" and "Fleurs d'Album", a collection of 12 miniatures. |
