Julia Maria Hanson
Julia Maria Hanson, 80, or rural Shawnee County, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Hanson taught elementary education in Shawnee county for eight years.
She was born Dec. 8, 1914, on a farm west of Auburn, the daughter of Loyal and Edna Maria Holmes Atwood. She was graduated from Auburn High School. She attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College and was graduated from Central College in McPherson in 1938.
She married Howard Edwin Hanson on May 12, 1946, in Auburn. He survives.
Mrs. Hanson was a member of Williams Chapel Wesleyan Church and the Wesleyan Missionary Society in Keene. She had attended Dover Federated Church since 1989.
Other survivors include a daughter, Zelma Gould, Topeka, and Judy Spriggs, Houston, Texas; a son, Paul Hanson, Olathe; two brothers, Ralph Atwood and Joseph Atwood, both of Auburn; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dover Federated Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery. Mrs. Hanson will lie in state until 9 p.m. Sunday at the Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Federated Church, Dover, 66420.
