Biographical Sketch

Joshua was a farmer during his long live in Avon. He came from Durham to Avon, soon after his brother and sister, and settled before 1828 near Mt. Blue and Mt. Blue Pond in the same neighborhood in which his brother, John, and sister, Sally, both mentioned above, lived. It appears he or his brother or both settled first well up the side of the mountain and later removed to the East of the pond into the Vining-Worthley neighborhood which at that time was a school district of fifteen or more prosperous farmers, and now is vacated and fast growing into a wilderness--land which produced enough to rear families of ten to fifteen or more children. Joshua Dow and Gen. Neal Dow were fifth cousins and both born in the same year.[8]
