POE, JOSEPHINE E. "Mrs. Josephine E. Poe, widow of Judge Neilson Poe, died
at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at her residence, 1127 Park Avenue. Mrs.
Poe was in the 81st year of her age, and her illness had been of several
years' duration. Her maiden name was Josephine Clemm, and she was a daughter
of William Clemm, of Virginia. Her sister was the lovely Virginia Clemm, the
wife of the poet, Edgar Allen Poe, and the Lenore of "The Raven," whose life
and death at the little cottage at Fordham, N. Y., was one of the most
romantic and touching incidents of the poet's life. Mrs. Josephine Poe and
her sister Virginia married cousins. Their father was Wm. Clemm, who was a
brother of Jas. S. Clemm, the father of Rev. W. T. D. Clemm, the well-known
Methodist minister. Mrs. Josephine Poe was a member of the Protestant
Episcopal Church. Six children survive her, of whom Messrs. John Prentiss
and Charles Poe are among the widest known attorneys of the Baltimore bar."
