    "Joseph Weld (2), Patriot of the Revolution, son of Joseph (1) and Mary (Ruggles) Weld, was born in Roxbury July 26, 1760. He was fearless and outspoken in his sentiments regarding British oppression, and when hostilities commenced he was among the first in his native town to enlist. He was Corporal in Capt. Lemuel Child's Company, Col. William Heath's Regiment Mass. Militia, responded to the 'Lexington Alarm'; private in Capt. Hopestill Hall's Company, Col. Samuel Robinson's Regiment, Mass. Militia, Jan. 31, Feb. 20, 1776, and rendered important service in Rhode Island."
